We just wrapped an aerial shoot with Ferrari in Miami — here's how we flew it, and why brands keep bringing cars to our drones.
This May we wrapped an aerial shoot with Ferrari in Miami, and it's one we're proud of — Ferrari now joins a client roster that already includes Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes and more. The brief was the kind we love: put one of the most iconic cars ever built in motion and make the air do the storytelling.
We shot it with the DJI Inspire 3 alongside our aerial team and the crew at Think Global Films. Here's a look behind the scenes — the setup, the gear, and how we approach filming high-end cars from the air.
Filming Ferrari from the air in Miami
Miami is one of the best cities in the world for automotive work: hard tropical light, ocean backdrops, the Brickell skyline, and long stretches of clean road and tarmac. For a car like a Ferrari, that mix lets you cut between tight, glossy hero details and wide, cinematic reveals without ever leaving the city.
Aerial is where a car film earns its scale. A low, tracking drone move alongside the car reads as speed; a rising pull-back turns a parked hero shot into an establishing frame of the whole location. On this shoot we planned each move around the light and the car's lines — the Ferrari does the work, the camera just has to keep up.
The gear: DJI Inspire 3
We flew the DJI Inspire 3 — a full-frame 8K cinema drone that slots straight into a professional post pipeline. For automotive work it's the sweet spot between agility and image quality: fast and precise enough to fly proximity moves next to a moving car, but with the sensor and colour depth a brand campaign demands.
Paired with the right ND filtration and a locked-off flight plan, the Inspire 3 lets us match aerial coverage to ground-unit footage frame for frame. It's the newest addition to our fleet, flying alongside our Freefly Alta X heavy-lift and FPV kits — so we can scale from a nimble single-operator setup to a full aerial unit on the same day.
The crew and the workflow
Aerial car work is a team sport. On this one the pilot in command was Gabe Piñeiro, with our aerial DP running camera, in collaboration with Think Global Films. Clear comms between the drone team, the ground unit and the client is what keeps a shoot like this safe, fast and repeatable — every pass planned, every battery swap timed, every frame checked on the monitor before we move on.
We handle the full aerial workflow: scouting and shot planning, flight permits and airspace, the flying itself, and a graded, delivery-ready aerial package that cuts seamlessly with the rest of the film.
